Ced’s Life Journey
On October 04, 1948, in Houston, Texas a son, Cedrick Ward Hardman was born to the late Frank and Ossie Lee Hardman. He was the second child of four children born through this union.
Embracing Youth
Students from varying schools throughout the community submitted essays on their respective influential leaders from Acres Homes. Submissions were received from students of all grades. Beulah Shepard
Beulah Ann Shepard was a political icon, a community activist, and also the fourth of seven children. Beulah was born on June 14, 1921, to her parents, Emmitt and Queen Raleigh in Plain Dealing, Louisiana.
Pastor Floyd H. Flake
Pastor Floyd Harold Flake was born January 30, 1945, in Los Angeles, California; however, he grew up in Houston, Texas. He has 14 siblings. His parents were strong Christians which influence his way of thinking.
Roy D. Malonson
Mr. Roy Douglas Malonson is a vivid advocate for the Acres Homes community. Mr. Malonson was born into a family of 11 people. As a child he was diagnosed with polio. However, he did not allow illness to stop him from hard work and determination.
Loretta Devine
There have been many African American performers throughout the years; some more notable than others, but still great, nonetheless. These female performers deserve more recognition than they are given for their outstanding work on the many daunting roles they have to play
Acres Home Proud
In the early 1960’s, many African Americans settled into this profound and prolific area of Houston and there stood minds, leaders never knowing the impact they would someday bring to the Acres Homes Community.

Rest In Peace
Pearly Mae Franklin was born on January 16, 1932 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Juanita Catherine Hayes and Samuel Hayes. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 21, 2019. Her parents, husband Ernest Walter Franklin, and two brothers Emile and Jimmy preceded her in death.
