Fort Bend ISD Shares Draft Boundary Plans as Part of Long-Range Boundary Planning Process

Fort Bend ISD Shares Draft Boundary Plans as Part of Long-Range Boundary Planning Process
During a Special Called Board Meeting on Monday evening, Fort Bend ISD (FBISD) shared possible draft attendance boundary plans as part of the District’s ongoing Long-Range Boundary Planning process.
During the meeting, PASA, the district’s demographer, shared information about student enrollment projections across the state and in FBISD.  PBK Architects provided updated information about the facility condition at each campus.  Zonda, the district’s boundary planner, shared information about the planning process and presented the draft boundary plans.  The Board of Trustees and community members were presented with draft boundary plans that included the proposed closure/consolidations for seven elementary schools, boundary adjustments for elementary campuses district-wide, and the establishment of an attendance boundary for the opening of Amy Coleman Middle School. The proposed seven elementary campuses for closure/consolidation included in this phase of the process are:
  • Austin Parkway Elementary
  • Dulles Elementary
  • Fleming Elementary
  • Glover Elementary
  • Mission West Elementary
  • Ridgegate Elementary
  • Sugar Mill Elementary
These are draft proposals only and are intended to explore ways to balance enrollment and improve the long-term utilization of district facilities. No decisions have been finalized.
“I want our community to clearly understand that what was shared tonight represents draft plans, not final decisions,” said FBISD Board President Kristin Tassin. “The School Boundary Advisory Committee, Administration, and the Board have devoted significant time and thoughtful discussion to these initial draft plans, always with one goal in mind, ensuring long-term success and stability for our students and schools.” The purpose of sharing draft plans at this stage is to provide transparency and to ensure the community is able to understand the status of the work at this point.  In January, proposed boundary scenarios will be posted for community review and feedback.
“Schools are truly the heartbeat of our neighborhoods, and we recognize how deeply our families, staff, and students care about them,” said Superintendent Marc Smith. “These conversations are not easy, but they are necessary. While many districts across the state are facing similar challenges, we are committed to navigating this process with care, integrity, and open communication, and to emerging as a model for how districts can address difficult decisions while keeping students at the center.”
Next Steps in the Planning Process
FBISD will continue engaging the community through early 2026 as the District works toward final recommendations. The anticipated timeline includes:
  • January 2026
Proposed boundary scenarios will be released for public review and feedback.
  • February 2026
A Board Workshop will be held to review community feedback and discuss final recommendations, including potential closures/consolidations and other campuses whose attendance boundaries may be impacted.
  • March 2026
The Board of Trustees is expected to consider and take action on final attendance boundary scenarios.
At this time, besides the attendance boundary for Amy Coleman Middle school, no other middle school or any high school attendance boundary changes are being considered as part of this phase of the Long-Range Boundary Planning process.
Fort Bend ISD remains committed to leading this work with Professionalism, Accountability, and Communication, ensuring decisions are guided by data, community input, and a focus on long-term student success.
