Angel Reese made WNBA history Saturday night, becoming the first player in league history to reach 500 rebounds in a single season.
Reese reached the milestone while helping the Atlanta Dream defeat her former team, the Chicago Sky, 106-81 at State Farm Arena on Sept. 19. She finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds, recording her 31st double-double of the season and extending the WNBA single-season record she already held.
The milestone adds another chapter to a rapid rise built around one of basketball’s most demanding skills. Rebounding requires positioning, timing, strength and persistence, and Reese has made it the defining element of her professional game. She led the WNBA in rebounds per game during each of her first two seasons and has continued that dominance in Atlanta.
Saturday’s performance also carried extra meaning because it came against Chicago, the franchise that selected Reese with the seventh pick in the 2024 draft. The Sky traded the two-time All-Star to Atlanta in April for first-round selections in 2027 and 2028, along with a future second-round pick swap.
Reese’s record-setting night came as Atlanta continued a strong late-season run. The Dream also established a franchise single-season record for steals during the victory, while rookie Isobel Borlase scored a career-high 18 points.
For Reese, the 500-rebound mark is both an individual breakthrough and a visible measure of consistency across a long professional season. No WNBA player had previously reached that total in one year.
