AUSTIN, TX – With tremendous sorrow, State Representative Senfronia Thompson has issued the following statement on the passing of her dear friend and colleague, Congressman Sylvester Turner.
“I am deeply saddened to have learned about the passing of my dear friend and long-time public servant, Congressman Sylvester Turner. Congressman Turner was a tireless advocate for the people of Houston and the State of Texas. I’ve had the privilege of serving with him in the Texas Legislature and continued working with him in his capacity as Mayor of Houston and finally as the champion for the 18th Congressional District. Congressman Turner was an outstanding partner and together, we brought many victories home for our constituents.
Congressman Turner had an unwavering commitment and passion for advocating for all Houstonians, but especially for disadvantaged communities. He has left us a legacy with his remarkable career from the halls of State Capitol, to City Hall, to our Nation’s Capitol. Congressman Turner’s friendship, mentorship and leadership to many will be deeply missed.
I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Congressman Turner’s family. Thank you for sharing Sylvester with us. He will never be forgotten, and his legacy will live forever. May he rest in eternal peace.”
