Attucks Students visit the Houston Museum
Mabrie Memorial Mortuary has continued efforts to support the Houston community. Prior to the students of Attucks Middle School going on holiday break, Mabrie sponsored an educational field trip to the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
History of the Black Press
The chief issue for the African-American at that time hinged on combating the vices of slavery and oppression. Blackpast.org indicates the publication featured, “Editorials deriding slavery, racial discrimination and other injustices against African-Americans.”
Unspoken and Unaddressed Realities of Poverty
HOUSTON – Most people are unaware that in the U.S., approximately 1 in 5 children under the age of 18 live in poverty, shouldering more than they should have to. In Houston, this number is even greater.
Children of the Confederacy Creed Plaque Removed
Recently, the “Children of the Confederacy Creed” plaque was removed from the Texas Capitol, where it had been on display for the last sixty years. The plaque was originally placed in the Texas Capitol in 1959 and stated, “The Civil War was not a rebellion and its underlying cause was not to sustain slavery.”
The Reality of Life
To be successful and have a brilliant life is something that most people would love to have. The “Reality of Life” is, that this is not something that is going to happen for many of our citizens.
Black on Black Crimes
It is disturbing that there is so much violence in the world, especially when innocent lives are taken. When these incidents occur, the African American community is so quick to ask for justice and begin protesting especially when the incident seems to be racially motivated.
Please Stand Up!
In closing out the holiday season, I thought on this scripture in reference to the United States. Curiosity caused me to wonder, “What would happen if the WORLD issued a decree that every immigrant was to be taxed to return to the country of his or her descent?”
Different Struggle, Same Fight
“Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.
Selection at the Election
The challenges Americans will face in the 2020 presidential election will require that, “We the People” be together on our “Selection at the Election”. Our current POTUS has made so many negative governmental resolutions which have divided and damaged America.
True Leadership Can’t Be Bought
During the era I was brought up in, leadership meant something. Back then, mostly everybody in the community respected the leaders in the Black community.
