SSLW Celebrates National Make a Difference Day

ROSENBERGSuburban Sugar Land Women (SSLW) hosted National Make a Difference Day, at Brazosview Health Care Center with residents and staff and engaging fellowship, delicious food and fantastic fun activities.

First, the fun-filled day began with a complimentary, home-cooked breakfast by East Beast Catering which consisted of eggs, biscuits, oatmeal, grits, bacon, sausage and orange juice for 25 residents and 9 staff members. Then, Ms. Barbara, the yoga instructor, instructed residents on how to do yoga from their chair. This included stretching and breathing exercises. The residents said they felt very relax and enjoyed the yoga exercises.

Next, residents played bingo in which they were highly engaged, laughed and had a good time. Later, complimentary gift bags were given to all residents, which included body wash, socks, shampoo and conditioner. Lastly, SSLW provided all on-site staff with thank you WalMart gift cards for making a difference in the community. October birthday’s celebrants enjoyed a delicious birthday cake. Wow, what an amazing day for the residents, staff and volunteers!

Additionally, SSLW would like to offer gratitude to Brazosview Health Care Center’s residents and staff; Ms. Keisha Butler, Activity Director; 11-year-old volunteer, Chase;  East Beast Catering and Alief Hasting High School TAFE’s volunteers for serving. Kudos to Donisha Smith, Project Chair and Judeene Edison, Tomika Lewis and Dr. Devette George, Project Co-Chairs for their exemplary leadership; they collaborated biweekly for months in designing, planning and implementing this successful service project.

SUGAR  LANDThe Walk to End Alzheimer occurred at the University of Houston.  It is the world’s largest event with 600+ communities nationwide participating to raise awareness and fund for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Patrick Jean Louis, SSLW Project Chair, cheerfully assisted in registration from 5:30 -8:30am.

MISSOURI CITY – “ A Literary Café” hosted Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, Suburban Houston – Fort Bend Alumnae Chapter showcased 15 renowned authors, 13 unique vendors, live entertainment and 200+ attendees at the free and open to the public event. Mable and Mose Austin, SSLW’s Founders, provided desserts and voter’s information materials.
