Houston Mayor John Whitmire declared Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, as Melanie Lawson Day in the City of Houston. The date coincides with her last news broadcast on ABC 13, where Melanie spent 43 years anchoring the news, reporting major stories and landing exclusive interviews. During her 43-year-career, Melanie has interviewed celebrities, traveled across the globe and shared stories that helped shape Houston.
The mayor was invited by KTRK Channel 13 management to surprise Melanie in the newsroom and present the proclamation honoring her career.
