Today, Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis issued the following statement on FEMA and Harris County Flood Control District’s Release of MAAPNext Flood Maps
“All families in Harris County should be protected from flooding, no matter their zip code. In the wake of Harvey and other recent storms, we have seen too many families, especially in historically underserved communities, flood more heavily than expected.
FEMA and Harris County Flood Control District’s newly released maps are a step toward clarifying risk and understanding the impacts of climate change. However, these maps are not yet final; there will still be opportunities for the public to weigh in to most accurately reflect risk.
I expect Harris County Flood Control to continue to engage the community and cultivate trust throughout this process so that we can build a resilient and equitable county.”
