The National Urban League has released its 2026 State of Black America report, warning that decades of progress for Black Americans are being reversed. The organization says Black communities may be experiencing one of their most significant setbacks since the Civil Rights Movement, particularly in employment, voting rights, economic opportunity and civil rights enforcement.

The report also raises concerns about the elimination of diversity, equity and inclusion programs in government, education and corporate America. National Urban League leaders warn that removing these initiatives without addressing racial disparities could widen gaps in income, homeownership, education and access to business opportunities.

The organization is calling on Black communities and civil rights groups to respond through voting, legal action, community organizing and support for Black-owned businesses. The report emphasizes that the progress achieved by earlier generations cannot be taken for granted and must be actively protected.
