SUGAR LAND, Texas — Sugar Land police are renewing their call for the public’s help after releasing a composite sketch of a man investigators say attacked a woman from behind with a baseball bat earlier this summer.
The assault happened at approximately 10:25 a.m. on June 5 near the intersection of Creekbend Drive and Fluor Daniel Drive in Sugar Land.
According to the Sugar Land Police Department, the woman was walking in the area when an unknown man approached her from behind and attacked her with a baseball bat. She suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Police Release New Composite Sketch
More than two months after the attack, investigators are continuing their effort to identify the person responsible.
Police said the victim recently worked with a forensic sketch artist to produce a composite image of the man she remembers from the attack. The sketch has now been released publicly in hopes that someone may recognize him or provide investigators with information that leads to his identification.
Authorities describe the suspect as a Black man believed to be in his 30s or 40s.
Police say the man left the area in an SUV following the assault. Investigators have received differing information about the vehicle’s appearance, however, and have said it could have been either dark-colored or light-colored.
Daytime Attack Raises Concern
The circumstances surrounding the assault are particularly concerning because it occurred during the morning hours while the victim was simply walking in the area.
Police have not publicly identified a motive or indicated that the woman knew her attacker.
The case highlights the importance of remaining aware of surroundings when walking alone, even in areas and during times of day that may normally feel safe.
It also underscores the role residents can play in helping investigators solve cases. A person may remember seeing an unfamiliar vehicle, recognize someone from the composite sketch or have information that did not initially seem important.
Even seemingly small details could help investigators develop a clearer picture of what happened.
