What’s Going On is the title of a rhythm and blues song released on January 21st, 1971, by Motown Records. Renaldo Benson wrote the lyrics after their tour group arrived in Berkley, California on May 15th, 1969, and witnessed police brutality in the city’s “People’s Park” during an anti-war protest demonstration. What’s Going On as a song was popularized by Marvin Gaye. Hence, “What’s Going On” in America in 2025 is precisely what President Donald J. Trump boldly said would be going on based upon the governing tenets and principles of Project 25. Trump in conjunction with the GOP is embarking upon brazen, bold, and devilish retribution against America’s democratic criminal justice system for attempting to hold Trump accountable for criminal deeds. Additionally, and no doubt about it, racism produces illogical devilish thinking as well as the propensity to politically vote against one’s own self-interests, which in turn, is insanity to the nth degree. It’s not about Trump, it is about the Americans who were eager and willing to cast their votes for Trump; not Donald J. Trump, because Trump has boldly and publicly told America his devilish intentions. At the same time, the price of eggs remains six dollars a dozen. America, think about it, racism absolutely drives individuals insane, because: “for as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.” (Proverbs 23: 7). Trump’s mass deportation program is about race, because Trump has publicly stated that if the immigrants were coming from Scandinavian countries, it would not be a problem. Of course, racists invariably will destroy themselves seeking to destroy those they hate simply because of skin-color. Racism is about EGO. EGO is an acronym for Edge God Out! Hence, after a devastating Civil War, the Jim Crow Era, the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts, America still has not been able to transcend the Color Line and embrace the concept of universal humanity, based upon the principles of Human Rights and Civil Rights spiritually enshrined in the Preamble and the U. S. constitution. What an ungodly shame, because in 2025, the answer to the question of What’s Going On is: ungodly illogical thinking and anti-democratic political actions.
On, January 28, 2025, only eight days after Donald J. Trump took the Presidential Oath of Office, and America is beginning to feel the pain, confusion, and potential suffering of President Trump’s declaration to reduce the size and scope of federal governmental spending to give tax-breaks to the billionaires that bought the presidency for him. After feeling the political heat from such an unwise and unlawful decision, the next day Trump reverses his unwise off-the-cuff partisan decision. Once again, America, eight days, and counting, and already we had a constitutional governing funding crisis. Constitutionally, congress controls the power of the governmental funding, not the President. Therefore, America will someone please tell President Trump and the GOP that a law is a law, and no one is above the law. Laws are created to be followed by all individuals, regardless of their personal or socio-economic status. Even so, let’s never forget the right to do something doesn’t mean that it is the right thing to do. What is going on in America is not in the long-term best interests of a multi-cultural democratic society. America has never been a White country. Native American Indians are the original inhabitants of the land, and Black slave labor built the infrastructure, and too many Whites were seeking “something for nothing”. If you do not believe me, visit City Hall in Jackson Mississippi and read the cornerstone on City Hall: “Built in 1855 by slave labor, material costs 7,500”. More importantly, and Lest we forget: “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” (Psalm 24:1). Glory hallelujah to the King of kings!
