HOUSTON — Scattered thunderstorms could complicate Houston ISD’s first day of classes Monday, especially during the afternoon trip home.
Forecast guidance reported by the Houston Chronicle calls for a mostly manageable morning commute, followed by increasing rain and thunderstorm chances around midday as tropical moisture and the sea breeze move inland. Slow-moving storms may produce brief heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds near dismissal time.
Conditions will vary by neighborhood, and some areas may stay dry. Where storms do not develop, heat index values could rise above 100 degrees, making hydration and limited outdoor exposure important for students and staff.
Houston ISD confirms that Monday, Aug. 10, is the first day of the 2026–27 school year. Families should watch campus and district notices, allow extra travel time and avoid flooded roadways. The district’s official enrollment page and back-to-school information are available at HoustonISD.org.
