Texas Southern University has created the Tiger Promise Scholarship, this scholarship is designed to help high school graduates in Texas attend college without worrying as much about costs. It aims to make higher education more accessible by covering the remaining tuition and fees after grants and scholarships are applied. To qualify, students must be a Texas resident, meet TSU’s admission requirements, complete their financial aid applications, and their families must make less than $125,000. The deadline to apply for the fall is in March, more information can be found of the university’s website. 

 

The Tiger Promise Scholarship is part of TSU’s commitment to supporting students and their families. It significantly reduces financial barriers, the program will ensure more students, especially those from underserved communities, can earn a college degree. TSU is dedicated to empowering the next generation of leaders and making education affordable for all.

 

Texas Southern University (TSU) is located in the heart of 3rd Ward, in Houston, Tx. The only Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the city. It was founded in 1927 and created to provide higher education to Black students. Over the years, TSU has grown and became one of the nation’s largest HBCUs offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs. It is now home to 10,000 students and is known for its strong focus on public service, law, business, and the arts. The school’s most recent achievement is performing with Beyonce at the Texans halftime show on Christmas day. 

 

The campus has over 80 programs, it is also known for its Thurgood Marshall School of Law, named after the first Black Supreme Court Justice. TSU is also known for its Pharmacy School program. The Tiger Promise Scholarship will strengthen this legacy and help many students achieve their dreams of becoming professionals. 

 

TSU has many notable alumni who have made significant contributions in many fields. Barbara Jordan, who became the first African American woman from the South elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Michael Strahan, a former NFL star and current TV personality known for his work on Good Morning America, Yolanda Adams, a Grammy-winning gospel artist, also graduated from TSU, the university is diverse in who it can produce. TSU’s history, successful alumni, and programs like the Tiger Promise Scholarship highlight its mission to inspire and support students. It remains an important place that continues to uplift its community and shape future leaders.
