Houston-based Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Partners with Beats By Dre to Help Kids

Darren Small and his co-founder Douglas Johnson already have quite the track record, particularly with a popular program called “Reading With A Rapper (RWAR).”

Now Jarren Small and Douglas Johnson are partnering with the iconic Beats By Dre, allowing the men an opportunity to provide quality resources for a new RWAR Digital program set to rollout this Fall. “We are looking at doing a free beta phase of the program this summer in up to seven cities,” Small, who has formed relationships with mayors, members of Congress, school districts, and others, stated.

In Remembrance: Cicely Tyson

The world has lost a true legend as Hollywood icon Cicely Tyson died at the age of 96.  The pioneering African American actress — who gained an Oscar nomination for her role as the sharecropper’s wife in “Sounder,”€ won a Tony Award in 2013 at age 88 and touched TV viewers’ hearts in “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman” — was in the middle of promoting her new memoir, “Just As I Am,” when she quietly passed away.

IN MEMORIAM: John Lewis, an American Hero and Moral Leader Alongside Martin Luther King, Jr., Dies at 80

NNPA NEWSWIRE — The 1965 Selma march was led by John Lewis. Lewis was perhaps the last remaining voice of moral authority from the civil rights era. Voting rights remains a challenge in the U.S. Lewis was on the front lines of that effort which was resisted by white racists in the South attempting to stifle Black voting power for decades. Lewis’ efforts and the increase in Black voting registration of African Americans in the South changed U.S. politics forever. The power of Black voters was first seen nationally with the election of President Jimmy Carter in 1976.
