Secondary Principal of the Year

HOUSTON – Dr. Khalilah Campbell-Rhone has been in the public education system for nearly 20 years. A proud Houstonian, she attended school in the Houston Independent School District.

In the 2016-2017 school year, Campbell-Rhone was named a School Support Officer for the same district she previously attended, taught, and led. When asked to support Worthing High School, she noticed that some of her former students were not performing to their fullest potential. As a result, when the principal position became available, she was determined to commit to helping Evan E. Worthing become a successful school once more.

Campbell-Rhone stepped down to take place as a principal and was officially named the principal of Worthing High School for the 2017-2018 school year. Given exactly one year to receive an accountability rating of Met Standard by the Texas Educational Association, Campbell-Rhone has hired a fantastic faculty and staff who have undertaken the motto, “All things are possible through hard work and sacrifice!”

Last April, Campbell-Rhone received the Educational Leadership Award for Houston ISD, and she looks forward to this years’ success alongside her students and team! She magnified that award by becoming Secondary Principal of the Year (HISD) for the 2018-2019 school year.

During her acceptance, Principal Campbell-Rhone gave most of the credit to the hard work and effort the entire campus has put in. “I am directing the ship, but it is the hard rowing of everyone on board that is getting us to where we need to be.”

Dr. Campbell-Rhone believes profoundly in preparing leaders for success, and because of this, she is an adjunct professor at the University of Houston teaching Instructional Supervision in the master’s program to aspiring school leaders. Campbell- Rhone is also a proud wife, daughter, sister and mother of three children.
