After thinking about last week’s editorial, I couldn’t help but revisit a term I have dealt with before as it relates to this issue, “Respect.”
While this simple word is something that everybody wants, not everybody is willing to give it. As members of the Black community, We MUST learn to respect and support our own people. It bothers me to see so many of US disrespecting US; on the other hand, some from our community will go out of their way to respect someone who doesn’t look like them or respect them in any fashion.
Nevertheless, I have been on both sides of the playing field. I know what it’s like to be a spectator and I know what it’s like to be a leader. And one thing I have learned is that it is easier to find fault and talk about a leader when you are not the one in the position.
We MUST learn how to support and respect one another. Some Black folks just will not respect a leader, a title, a position or nothing else if it is on the face of somebody that looks like them. And that is a shame!
At the end of the day, it all boils down to “Respect” which translates into the “Golden Rule”. We should strive to treat others as we want to be treated.
