Representative Senfronia Thompson Named Dean of the Texas House of Representatives

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Representative Senfronia Thompson was named Dean of the Texas House of Representatives by Speaker Dustin Burrows for being the longest continuously serving member in the Texas House of Representatives.

 

Dean Thompson was recognized for her wisdom and guidance based on the institutional knowledge she has gained from her exemplary length of service. Her tenure and tenacity has not only earned her this grand recognition but also the respect and admiration of many of her colleagues and beyond. She is known as the conscious of the Texas House of Representatives.

 

Dean Thompson was also named Vice-Chair of the Committee on Licensing & Administrative Procedures and a member of the Committee on State Affairs for the 89th Legislature.

 

As Vice-Chair of the Licensing & Administrative Procedures Committee, Dean Thompson will 

oversee matters related to the Texas Lottery Commission, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, the Texas Real Estate Commission and the State Office of Administrative Hearings. She will also oversee the regulation and licensing of plumbers, accountants, electricians, engineers, architects, barbers and cosmetologists, massage therapists, drivers education instructors, horseracing and other gaming industries, along with other trades and occupations regulated by the state.

 

Dean Thompson will work closely with the Chair to set and organize hearings, facilitate public testimony and committee discussion, and collaborate with committee members to advance legislation for full consideration of the Texas House.

 

As Speaker, I am proud to appoint Representative Thompson as Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Licensing & Administrative Procedures as she has demonstrated the knowledge and talent to support the leadership of this important committee,” said Speaker Burrows.  “The Texas House must address many critical issues this session, and I have complete confidence that in this role, Vice Chair Thompson will both meaningfully contribute to these key policy discussions and assist with the judicious administration of the committee’s business this session.”

 

In addition to serving as Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Licensing & Administrative Procedures, Dean Thompson will also serve as a member of the House Committee on State Affairs covering matters pertaining to ERCOT and the power grid.
