Her Life Story:

Barbara Faye Wilrich was born March 31, 1927 in Montgomery, Texas to Tommie Ward and Angie Hatchett-Ward. She attended school in the Montgomery County Public School District until 1941 when her family relocated to Houston in the Acres Home area.  She finished her education at G.W. Carver High School in 1944.  She also attended Prairie View A&M College of Texas.

She worked for Dr. Wilford Grimes and later at Foley’s & Sakowitz where she retired.

Barbara was united with Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in 1974 and was an active member until she departed.  She sang in the Mission Choir and was a member of the Mary Circle Missionary Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommie and Angie; her siblings, Sue, Tommie, Louise, Clarke, James, Rachel and Clarence; and her husband, James.

She leaves in God’s care her children, Edward, Larry Barbara, George (Bettie), Daryle (Ruth), and John (Pam); her sisters, Dora Durden and Betty Dawson, all from Houston, Texas; twenty grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, including Mrs. Margaret/Schelenda Mickey, her walking and shopping buddy.

“Grandmother,” as we all came to call her, had many gifts – master chef – we all loved Sunday dinner at “The House”, gardener, shopping maven, homemaker, caregiver, and the gift of gab – Grandmother never met a stranger.  A part of her lives in us all.

It’s hard to understand why people are taken from us, but find comfort in knowing you were a special part of such a well-lived life.  – Unknown
