This past weekend the Acres Homes Chamber celebrated the career of Roy and Shirley Malonson. I have worked with Mr. Malonson for over 15 years he is the person most responsible for our presence in the community. He promoted the notion of a significant presence in the community that led to the purchase of land. Mayor Sylvester Turner is also a lifelong resident of Acres Homes and was also a major influence in our decision to build.
Mr. Malonson has been unwavering in his advocacy for education and accurately predicted that if we built a center the community would respond positively. Victory Center was out of space the first year we constructed the facility and also houses one of the best models for an Early College in the country. Victory Center has also served as a model for our other community-based facilities.
I consider the Malonson’s good friends and their legacy will be felt for many generations.
