(Washington, D.C., April 29, 2025) – In the first 100 days of the Trump Administration, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins has rolled out a five point plan to lower the cost of eggs, worked to expand market access for American farmers, and empowered rural communities.
“As President Donald J. Trump ushers in a new golden age of prosperity for our economy, we are fighting to give farmers and ranchers a seat at the table. For far too long, the hardworking Americans who feed, fuel, and clothe the world were left on the sidelines. At USDA, I am reversing the policies of the Biden Administration that actively made life harder for America’s farmers and ranchers and instead pushing to expand market access and unleash prosperity for generations to come,” said Secretary Rollins.
Secretary Rollins has worked diligently to support American poultry and egg producers, combat avian flu, and lower the cost of eggs for consumers. In February, she announced a five-point plan to combat the avian flu and lower egg prices which has been applauded by agriculture and government leaders across the country. Since the plan was introduced, the wholesale price of eggs has decreased 56 percent.
Secretary Rollins announced she will visit six international markets in her first six months as Secretary to expand markets and boost American agricultural exports. At a time when the agricultural trade deficit is at nearly $50 billion following the previous administration’s little to no action in the international marketplace, the USDA is working to diversify global markets, strengthen existing markets, and hold existing trading partners accountable in the quest for reciprocal trade.
Secretary Rollins also announced a major win for American agriculture by securing the agreement of the Mexican government to meet the current water needs of farmers and ranchers in Texas as part of the 1944 Water Treaty. The Mexican government committed to transfer water from international reservoirs and increase the U.S. share of the flow in six of Mexico’s Rio Grande tributaries through the end of the current five-year water cycle.
Secretary Rollins, on National Agriculture Day, announced that USDA is issuing up to $10 billion of congressionally appropriated funds directly to agricultural producers through the Emergency Commodity Assistance Program (ECAP) for the 2024 crop year. Administered by USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA), ECAP funds are being distributed in record speeds and will help agricultural producers mitigate the impacts of increased input costs and falling commodity prices.
Secretary Rollins also previewed her vision for restoring rural prosperity to America, affirming the importance of the President’s efforts to rein in out-of-control government spending and federal overreach to return more power to the people.
