Houston Area Urban League Hosts 2025 Advancing Opportunity Luncheon: The Future of Opportunity

On Friday, June 27, 2025, the Houston Area Urban League (HAUL) will host its annual Advancing Opportunity Luncheon at the Hilton Americas – Houston, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with Southwest Airlines serving as the Title Sponsor.

This year’s theme, The Future of Opportunity,” reflects HAUL’s commitment to helping more individuals and families gain access to the tools, support, and pathways needed to build a better tomorrow. The luncheon provides an important platform to highlight the challenges facing our community and the meaningful work being done to help individuals and families achieve greater stability, opportunity, and long-term success in Houston.

Attended by approximately 300 entrepreneurs, executives, elected and appointed officials, young professionals, and civic leaders, the Luncheon will highlight the work of the Houston Area Urban League and its measurable impact throughout the community.

The event will feature a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Mario Castillo, Chancellor of Lone Star College. Panelists include Elizabeth Brock, Board Chair of METRO; Paula Harris, former Executive Director of the Houston Astros; Ryan Phillips, Vice President at NetPower; and Steven Kean, CEO of the Greater Houston Partnership. These leaders will share insights on how forward-thinking strategies, expanded access, and investment in people are shaping a stronger future for Houston.

Proceeds from the luncheon directly support HAUL’s programs and services, which include workforce development and job training, education and youth development, small business and entrepreneurship support, housing counseling and financial literacy, health and wellness services, social services assistance, and advocacy work. These programs help individuals gain the skills needed to secure employment, start businesses, purchase homes, improve their financial stability, and access essential resources that support long-term success for both youth and adults.
