WILMER, TEXAS – The seniors in the City of Wilmer stay busy. They also enjoy visiting with Wilmer residents.
Should you be looking for a place to enjoy lunch on a weekday, stop by and fellowship with the city’s Seniors this month and throughout the year.
“The congregate meal program is an exciting addition to our already thriving senior services program,” said Sarah Wainscott, Senior Service Coordinator. “Proper nutrition and regular socialization are key to maintaining independence in our twilight years, so it is great to be able to provide this to the seniors in our community.”
The City officially implemented the congregate meal program, also known as the Senior Meal Program on January 8, 2024. Sponsored in part by the Dallas Area Agency on Aging, and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, the program provides free and nutritious meals for seniors ages 60 and older. The meal plan is also open to all guests, for only $7.97 including not only a nutritious meal, but heartwarming conversation.
Lunch is served at the Wilmer Community Center, 101 Davidson Plaza, Monday through Thursday beginning at 11:30 a.m., and is usually concluded by 12:30 p.m.
“The City of Wilmer is pleased to offer our active seniors and all residents yet another opportunity to join together for fun and fellowship. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this excellent chance to meet and get to know the residents in the city,” said Wilmer Mayor Sheila Petta. “We are always looking for ways to interact with and present the residents of Wilmer advantages to living in our wonderful community, and we are happy to offer these nourishing meals four days a week for all to enjoy.
Wilmer’s Seniors organized in April 2023 and are growing monthly. The group not only meets regularly for meals, but they also gather at the Community Center to exercise, learn new skills like knitting and crocheting, playing board games, or just enjoying a cup of coffee, watching movies, educational programs, or having lively discussions.
Wilmer Senior Services encourages all to stop by on any of the scheduled days to fellowship.
