Director of African American History Museum Takes Leave Amid Political Pressure

Kevin Young, director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, has taken personal leave as of March 14. His departure comes just days before former President Donald Trump issued an executive order targeting federally funded institutions like the Smithsonian for promoting what he called “divisive” content.

While no official reason was given for Young’s leave, the timing has raised concerns. Shanita Brackett is now serving as interim director during his absence.
