A man was hospitalized Saturday morning after a vehicle operated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities struck him during an enforcement action in northwest Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The auto-pedestrian collision happened at about 7:20 a.m. Oct. 10 on Clay Road. The man was transported to a local hospital in stable condition with injuries described as not life-threatening, HCSO spokesperson Thomas Gilliland told the Houston Chronicle.

“Preliminary indications are that a vehicle operated by ICE authorities struck a man,” the sheriff’s office said in an initial public statement. HCSO later said the incident appeared to have occurred while federal immigration officers were conducting an enforcement action in the area.

The sheriff’s office had not released the man’s identity by late Saturday morning. Authorities also had not said whether he was connected to the ICE operation, what happened immediately before the collision or whether any citations or charges were being considered.

HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division is investigating, according to the Chronicle. ABC13 and KPRC 2 independently reported the same time and location, citing the sheriff’s office.

The episode comes as immigration enforcement operations face heightened scrutiny in the Houston region. However, investigators have released only preliminary information about Saturday’s incident, and the available evidence does not establish how the vehicle struck the man or who was responsible.

ICE had not issued a detailed public account of the collision as of publication. AFRAM News will update this report if officials release the man’s identity, additional information about his condition or findings from the investigation.
