His Loving Journey
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
Herbert Winston Johnson was born on August 8, 1946 to the union of Herbert and Katie Mae Johnson in Houston, Texas.
He received his formal education from George Washington Carver High School in Houston, Texas. He furthered his education at Houston Community College.
Herbert accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and was united with Greater Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church.
He met and united in holy matrimony to Gwendolyn Johnson on July 5, 1984 in Houston, Texas. This union was blessed with six children, Sherrian, Amirah, Sameerah, Wahid, Hakim, Khaliah.
Herbert enlisted into the United States Air Force, where he served as a K-9 Dog Handler during the Vietnam War.
He was employed by Houston Community College as a Diesel Mechanics Instructor until his retirement. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing, chess and playing dominoes. He was a member of the K-9 Dog Handler’s Association.
Herbert Winston Johnson departed this earthly life on January 30, 2019. He is preceded in death by his father, Herbert “Happy” Johnson; mother, Katie Mae Waldon; sister, Carol; and brother, Ronnie.
He leaves treasured memories to his wife, children, brother, grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
