Westbound I-10 Closure to Disrupt East Houston Traffic All Weekend

HOUSTON — Drivers traveling through east Houston should prepare for major delays this weekend as the Texas Department of Transportation closes all westbound Interstate 10 main lanes between Freeport Street and Uvalde Road/Market Street.

The shutdown is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, and continue through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17. TxDOT said crews will use the closure to complete asphalt repairs.

Westbound motorists should take Exit 779B for Uvalde Road/Market Street, remain on the frontage road past Uvalde Road and then merge back onto the I-10 main lanes. Traffic is expected to be heavier on the frontage roads and nearby east Houston streets throughout the closure.

Drivers should allow extra travel time, consider alternate routes and watch for workers and changing traffic patterns. TxDOT notes that construction schedules can change because of weather or other conditions.

The closure details and detour were announced by the Texas Department of Transportation. Motorists can also check current construction and roadway conditions through Houston TranStar.
