Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz voted against extending enhanced ACA premium tax credits that 3.7 million Texans rely on to afford their health care. Starting on January 1, Texas families will see their monthly health care premiums increase by an average of 114% — all because Senate Republicans refused to act. Republicans have no plan to lower health care costs. Meanwhile, Democrats put forward a common-sense, clean extension of the ACA tax credits — which nearly 75% of Americans support — but once again, Republicans have thrown everyday Texans under the bus to protect their billionaire tax cuts.

Earlier today, the DNC launched a digital homepage takeover in the hometown newspapers of vulnerable Senate Republicans, including Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, blasting them for hiking up costs that Texas families cannot afford to pay.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz just voted to make health care even more expensive for 3.7 million Texas families, making life even less affordable for millions of Texans. Republicans had the chance to stand up for Texas families and bring down health costs — but they chose not to because, in reality, Republicans have no plan to lower costs. Texans shouldn’t have to choose between food on the table, a roof over their head, or going uninsured. Democrats believe that Texans deserve better, which is why we’ve been and will keep fighting hard to bring down costs, make health care more affordable, and extend the ACA tax credits.”
