INTERGENERATIONAL KNOWLEDGE

The Black community suffers lasting harm when Godly knowledge is not passed from one generation to the next. White people cannot grant Black people freedom, because they were the ones who enslaved them. Freedom comes from God, not humanity. In the Bible, freedom is not the license to do whatever one desires; it is liberation from sin, guilt, and the fear of death. To live the purposeful life God intends, individuals must continually resist sin: “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). True freedom is the ability to love and serve as God does—above all, to love others, because love covers a multitude of sins. Freedom, therefore, is not independence from others but interdependence rooted in a personal relationship with God.

For at least three generations, the Black community has too often passed down the pursuit of pleasure rather than the spiritual and moral principles of self-sacrifice, self- discipline, and selflessness. No one can afford to treat you better than you treat yourself. Sadly, the Black community has lost three generations to the vanity of the world and the self- serving pursuit of pleasure. What an ungodly shame. In America, those who stray from the godly path of spiritual understanding risk becoming lifelong, card-carrying members of the walking dead. Therefore, “whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles” (Proverbs 21:23). King Solomon, the wisest leader who ever lived, said it best because wisdom can be learned. Hence, never answer a fool according to his folly, lest you become like him. Thus: “Get wisdom, get understanding, forget
it not: neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep
thee.

Wisdom thing: therefore, get wisdom, and with all thy getting get understanding”. (Proverbs 4: 5-7). Glory Hallelujah to the King of all who want-to-be-kings! Knowledge is the foundation of empowerment, especially knowledge of God. As Scripture teaches, “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shown it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood

by the things that are made, even his eternal power and God- head; so that they are without excuse. Because when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish hearts were darkened” (Romans 1:18–21). God is angered by wickedness, because wicked people knowingly exchange truth for lies and, in doing so, enslave themselves. God hates sin, and lying is the beginning of sin. During Donald J. Trump’s first presidential term, fact-checkers documented more than 35,000 false or misleading claims (lies). Yet, 77 million Americans reelected Trump, apparently believ- ing he had stopped lying. America, we must always remember lies destroy, while truth builds and unites. Therefore, we should never pass on from one generation to the next lying as public policy. Amen!
