Harris Health’s dedicated Endoscopy Center at Quentin Mease Health Center recently received national recognition for its high-quality patient care and safety program from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).

The ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program honors facilities that demonstrate a commitment to excellence by meeting rigorous national standards for patient safety, infection prevention, staff training and quality improvement. Quentin Mease is one of more than 600 endoscopy units nationwide to earn this distinction.

“Receiving this recognition is an honor because it reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire team,” says Alice Kohler, director, Nursing, Endoscopy Center at Quentin Mease. “Every day, we focus on providing safe, high-quality care while making sure our patients feel supported and confident throughout their experience. We’re proud to serve the residents of Harris County and remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of patient care.”

The Endoscopy Center at Quentin Mease provides specialized outpatient care for gastroenterology (GI) issues and diagnostic exams like colonoscopies to screen patients for cancer. The center opened three years ago to expand Harris Health’s patient access to high-quality digestive healthcare in a patient-centered environment.

“Since opening, the team has focused on delivering safe, compassionate care while working collaboratively to ensure every patient receives the highest standard of treatment,” Kohler adds. “The recognition reflects the combined efforts of physicians, nurses, technicians, support staff and leadership, whose teamwork and dedication help create a safe, seamless experience for every patient.”

Endoscopy procedures play an important role in preventing, diagnosing and treating diseases of the digestive system, including colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal conditions. Receiving care at an ASGE-recognized facility assures patients that the unit follows nationally recognized best practices designed to enhance safety, improve outcomes and support positive patient experiences.

To earn the recognition, endoscopy units complete a comprehensive peer-reviewed application process demonstrating compliance with national guidelines for infection control, quality improvement, staff skills and patient safety. Facilities that meet these standards receive recognition for three years.

The achievement underscores Harris Health’s commitment to expanding access to high-quality specialty care and investing in programs that improve the health of the communities it serves.
