| The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is proud to announce that it has been awarded an IMLS grant to support the first segment of an overall plan to improve the care of its natural history collections. Through a three-phase plan that is expected to be completed by 2028, the Science Collections Department will:
The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s Science Collections Department has already started working on phase one of the project by finalizing the layout of new compact shelving for the bird and mammal study skin collections, creating catalog worksheets and developing training for those involved in the project. The second phase of the project will include assessing each specimen for storage and preservation needs. Once assessed, this phase will focus on rehousing, photographing, labeling and cataloguing each piece of the mammal study skins collection. The third, and final phase of the project, will focus on rehousing, photographing, labeling and cataloguing each piece of the bird study skins collection. “We are incredibly grateful to the IMLS for recognizing the importance of caring for our collections,” said Regina Faden, Ph.D., President of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. “This funding will allow us to continue being responsible stewards by protecting our collection and ensuring the longevity of our educational resources.” The Museum hopes that this will provide better physical access, organization, and access to information, making it easier for the collections team to provide a more fulfilling experience for Museum guests and attendees of all educational programs. |
