Lone Star College-Montgomery recently recognized 36 students who joined the LSC-Montgomery Phi Theta Kappa Beta Delta Iota chapter. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society that strives to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students.
“These students represent what is possible when commitment, curiosity, and purpose come together,” said Dr. De’ Reese Reid-Hart, LSC-Montgomery president. “They have demonstrated not only academic excellence, but also a desire to grow as leaders and engage in meaningful exchange of ideas that will shape their future and the communities they serve.”
The ceremony took place April 15 and introduced 36 out of a total of 138 students who joined PTK between Nov. 2025 and March 2026. Dr. Reid-Hart gave the keynote speech, congratulating the students. LSC-Tomball Professor Laura Dupree, the PTK District IV Coordinator, also spoke, welcoming the students.
“Being part of Phi Theta Kappa reflects a commitment to excellence that extends beyond the classroom,” said Reid-Hart. “Our students are developing as leaders and contributors, ready to make an impact in their careers and in the communities they serve.”
LSC-Montgomery student Daniela Ruiz Gonzalez was recently selected by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society as a 2026 World Impact Scholar from a highly competitive pool of applicants and will receive a $2,500 scholarship. Supported by a generous investment from Coca-Cola North America, the World Impact Scholars program honors community college students whose academic paths and career goals reflect the real workforce needs of their communities.
The event also recognized LSC-Montgomery PTK members who were named Jack Kent Cooke semifinalists and All-State Academic Team members. Requirements for PTK membership are 3.5 cumulative GPA and 12 earned credit hours. Those interested can learn more at LoneStar.edu/Phi-Theta-Kappa.
