The Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD) Board of Trustees has received a formal recommendation from district administration to move forward with the following items as part of the District’s Long-Range Boundary Planning process:
- Proposed closure of seven elementary campuses
- Implementation of districtwide elementary attendance boundary changes, and
- Establishment of the attendance boundary for Amy Coleman Middle School
The recommendation reflects months of study, community engagement, and data analysis. The School Boundary Advisory Committee (SBAC), comprised of parents and community members from across the district, provided input to the administration on recommendations for Board consideration. Members spent hours studying information, seeking clarification, and reviewing proposed boundary plans for alignment with the decision principles detailed in Policy FC (Local). The members of the SBAC serve with a student-centered approach and operate through a district-wide lens and not from their own interests.
“Fort Bend ISD is facing a massive decline in enrollment, for various reasons, across the district. Many schools are severely below capacity and declining,” said FBISD Board President Kristin Tassin. “There’s a need, and not a want, to make better use of the seats we have in our schools, and to do that, we have to balance attendance zones,” added Tassin.
“At this time, no final decisions have been made,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marc Smith. “The recommendation was presented to the Board of Trustees as part of the District’s Long-Range Boundary Planning process. It would be premature to elaborate on potential outcomes or specific implementation details before Board action,” he added.
The Board is scheduled to consider the final boundary recommendations on March 9, 2026.
If approved, the District will provide comprehensive information regarding next steps related to student and staff transitions. Fort Bend ISD encourages families, staff, and community members to continue engaging in the process and to monitor official district communication channels for updates.
