Recently, more than 1,100 senior citizens from across the state attended Houston City Council Member Amanda Edwards’ The Empowered You: Houston Senior Citizens Conference. It served as a one-stop-shop event which provided resources and information to help senior citizens thrive in this season of their lives.

First, the fun-filled day began with a complimentary, home-cooked breakfast by East Beast Catering which consisted of eggs, biscuits, oatmeal, grits, bacon, sausage and orange juice for 25 residents and 9 staff members.

The year 2015 marks the 80th birthday of Aldine ISD. Over the past 80 years the district has grown to almost 70,000 students and is projected to keep growing at 3% per year for next 5 years. The buildings in Aldine ISD average 30 years in age. Many of the buildings are much older.
The “Building Bridges” forum created an open dialogue surrounding tenuous relations between police and youth.“It gives us more understanding of what’s going on, and how they look at us and how we look at them, so they know,” Bria Jones, one of the teens who led the dialogue, said.
Just recently, the House Bill 910 was approved by the Texas House, on a vote of 101 to 42. The bill is one that has been strongly supported by the National Rifle Association and sponsored by State Representative Larry Phillips.
The 16th Annual Heritage Day Rodeo, hosted by BPCCA, turned out to be successful with the help of Black cowboys and cowgirls, spectators, and with the sponsorship of H-E-B and Silver Eagle Distributors.

For he has seen pain, blood and death as it relates to injustices that have plagued the African-American community for years on all sides of the fence.
