What has happened to Zerick Guinn’s votes?

HOUSTON- Zerick Guinn recently ran for Harris County Constable-Precinct 2. Guinn supporters say at one point in the election, he led his opponent by at least 500 votes with a majority of the precincts being counted.

However, election watchers say as the clock moved past midnight those 500 votes disappeared from Guinn’s column. The other candidate Chris Diaz, whose vote count went up by an additional 150 people, won the election.

Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart says it was a technical error and a mistake between Reliant Center where the vote boxes are dropped off and the Clerk’s office where they are counted. Guinn has not said if he will challenge the process.

Ironically, Former Houston City Councilman Jarvis Johnson lost his bid for the Democratic spot in the race for position 6 at the Harris County Department of Education.  He was in a runoff with Erica Lee. He too has questions. He said there is a discrepancy between the number of ballots and voters.  Johnson says in his race there were only 11,000 ballots but 16,000 votes cast in the race, and he wants an explanation for that.
