Webster defines a civil war as, “a war between citizens of the same country.” Thus, political warfare may be described as, “the use of political means to compel an opponent to do one’s will, based on hostile intent.” Well, I would say that a complete government shutdown would definitely constitute ‘hostile intent’!
Since President Barack Obama was first inaugurated into office I have written and spoken out about the blatant disregard and disrespect that has been bestowed upon him. While, this editorial does not remain any different, as the publisher I have a duty to express the current and historical realities affecting our communities. As it is, not only are these good ole’ United States of America seeing live and in living color what I have been trying to convey; but the world as a whole.
We MUST Understand that, there is a civil-political war going on right here in our country and it’s not going to stop anytime soon.
President Obama’s response in light of the situation began with him speaking out about the House of Representatives, Speaker John Boehner, for refusing to allow a vote on a funding bill that would end a three-day government shutdown. In his speech in Rockville, Maryland this past Thursday, he informed of how, “Republican conservatives in the House are dead set on killing his signature healthcare law and that he is adamant about protecting it from being dismantled or defunded.” I commend the President for taking a stance and not backing down on his initiative. Obama said that he is willing to negotiate some changes to the law to improve it, but made clear he would not allow the law to be dismantled.” It’s the law of the land, it’s here to stay,” he concluded.
As he continued with the speech he stated that, “This whole thing is about one thing, the Republican obsession with the Affordable Care Act. That seems to be the only thing that unites the Republican Party right now,” stated President Obama.
While people may attempt to dress it up and pacify it however they please at the end of the day, it is still a dagger being aimed directly at the first Black president of the United States of America. It is my sincere belief that if President Obama was not a member of the race that he belongs to, this country would not be experiencing the hostility and division that it is now. After all, one of the main sources of governmental shutdown rests upon the basis of the implementation of an affordable healthcare system for everyone. Just so happens that this is the first time in U.S. history that a Black man and president at that, has signed into law an affordable healthcare system.
With no thought as to if the system will work or even an attempt to support the President; the Republican party is insistent upon allowing their true character to stand up, in front of the entire nation. Although the President is in a position that he cannot just tell it like it is, I am not! I have made reference to it once and I will do so until the message has been received and understood. At the end of the day, it all boils down to the color of his skin. Now, addressing the faithful and loyal readers of African-American News&Issues, “ain’t that a mother for ya?”
