Through Erica’s Eyes: Texas Southern University Students Win Surprise vitaminwater(R) Concert

By Erica C. Davis
HOUSTON- This summer, vitaminwater created “uncapped,” a nationwide concert series dedicated to combining an unexpected mix of the best artists working in hip-hop, electronica and indie rock on the same stage. The eighth concert took place Monday night exclusively for Texas Southern University students, with the unique pairing of Miguel and French Montana. The location of the event was chosen as a result of a nationwide contest that offered students at HBCUs a chance to win an uncapped concert for their school (Grambling state university hosted the first of two HBCU concerts last Monday). The artists brought down “venue” with their respective hits – Miguel performed “Adorn” and “Strawberry Amazing,” while French Montana sang his hit “Shot Caller” and later called some of the biggest names in the Houston hip-hop game — including Bun B, Paul Wall and Trae the Truth– to join him on stage.
For those who were unable to make it out Monday night, see the vitaminwater YouTube channel for performance coverage, behind the scenes footage and artist interviews. You can also see footage from past weeks’ uncapped events that features The Dream, Zola Jesus, Rick Ross, Omarion, French Montana, Wale, Melanie Fiona, 2Chainz, Passion Pit, Kendrick Lamar, Best Coast, Little Dragon, A-Trak, Big Boi, Matt & Kim, Nas, Future and Jhene Aiko.
