GARLAND- “Tres Chefs” are cooking up their version of a scramble for the 8th annual golf outing benefiting the New Beginnings shelter, educational programs, and transitional housing. The evening dinner, auctions and live entertainment will cap a day of activities at the “Lakes course” in Firewheel Golf of Garland by an expected group of 300 golfers. The proceeds from the June 1st tournament go to fund the activities at the New Beginnings Center. The need for the center is profound, this past year (2011) the center delivered near record level services to nearly 8000 people.
“Tres Chefs” are Cassandra Armstrong, Aldolphus A. Stuart and Chanelle Watson. Armstrong is well known in North Texas. She’s been a caterer, educator, and executive chef here for nearly 30 years. She is best known for her healthier twist on traditional Southern cuisine, maximizing the flavor in her dishes while minimizing harmful ingredients.
Joining her is Adolphus A Stuart, who says cooking is like Jazz. Stuart explains the original recipe may be good, but when you improvise, it takes the food to an entirely different plateau. Stuart has cooked with a diverse group of chefs from Marcus Samuelson of New York city’s Aquavit to Robert Wong in West Virginia.
In 2010, 136 women in Texas were killed by an intimate partner or ex-partner. There were more than 193,000 reported family violence incidents in Texas alone.
