HOUSTON—The National Women of Achievement, Inc.- Metro Southeast Houston Chapter recently hosted its 22nd Annual Golden Apple Awards Luncheon. The group honored Metro Southeast Houston Chapter Scholarship Recipients and National Youth Achievers for Continuing Their Education. Every year, thousands of dollars are awarded in scholarships from each individual chapter in the region to deserving college-bound students from across the nation. Recipients are chosen on the basis of their high school records, character, leadership abilities, talents, community involvement and financial need. Scholarship recipients were Kristin Hayes, Alexandra Miller, E’Delana Craine, Chaunessey Franklin, Tremon Green, and Alexzandria Johnson. Other honored were: Maurice Alexander, Debbie Allen, MaTausha Blake, Leorlin S. Boyd, Ruby Ellis Brown, Wythel Sprott Elbert, Elvin Franklin, Jr., Erroll L. Franklin, Henry Harvey, III, Brandon Horton, Shannon Hightower, Nancy Jones, Edith McAdams, Daisy Mitchell, Alice Moreno, Cleveland Odom, Sonia Parker, Sheree Roberts, Kimberly Rochon, Alma Shelton, Samena Waldrup, Casey Webster, Frankie Webster, and Jewel Whitfield.
The National Women of Achievement, Inc., encourages women to maintain high moral, ethical and scholastic standards and to strive for excellence in the career field of their choice. They provide guidance and other support for young people in the pursuit of their goals; work to improve the status of women in politics, businesses and equal employment in all phases of life and opportunities for members to broaden their involvement in community projects and activities.
