HOUSTON- The Houston Independent School District received a $360,000 grant from the National Summer Learning Association to provide a summer learning program to help incoming sixth-graders transition into middle school.
HISD is among five school districts nationally that were selected to receive this grant sponsored by a $4 million donation from the Wal-Mart Foundation to NSLA. The grants are intended to fund promising summer learning programs over the next two years for middle-schoolers across the country.
This grant will provide the ‘Learning the Way of the Middle’ bridge program to ease the transition from elementary to middle school at HISD’s five Apollo 20 middle schools.
