HOUSTON- Aldine ISD Trustee Marine Jones announced her retirement from the Board of Education during a recent Aldine ISD Board meeting. Jones’ retirement is effective immediately. Jones was appointed to Position 1 in February 2002 and elected in May after retiring from a 38-year career in Aldine ISD. Jones said she was grateful for the opportunities she received over the years as an employee in AISD and as an AISD Trustee. She said she was proud to be a part of the best school district in Texas and thanked the many people she came in contact with over the years for their support and encouragement.
She added, “I have spent numerous hours attending extracurricular activities, visiting schools, hugging students and parents, congratulating teachers and principals on a job well done and creating policies and making difficult decisions that keep our schools running smoothly. However, the time has come for me to move on to the next chapter of my life.”
Her fellow board members, along with Superintendent Dr. Wanda Bamberg and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Archie Blanson, thanked her for her service to Board and to the students and staff of AISD. In addition, those who attended the gave Jones a standing ovation.
Marine Delois Jackson Jones was born and raised in Huntsville, Texas. She attended Sam Houston High School. She graduated from Jarvis Christian College in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree and majored in Business education. After moving to Houston, she pursued elementary education certification from Texas Southern University.
She also holds a Masters of Education degree in Library Science from Sam Houston State University. She returned to Texas Southern University for certification in Counseling in 1972 and became a licensed professional counselor and guidance in 1984 and retired from Aldine Independent School District in 1998 after 38 years of service. She held various positions in Aldine including secretary, teacher, assistant librarian, librarian and counselor.
In February 2002, she was appointed to the Aldine ISD School Board. She enjoys the students, parents, staff, and community of Aldine. In September 2004, she became master trustee.
Along with serving on the school board, she was also a teacher intern supervisor for the University of Houston-Downtown. In 2007, Marine received the Living Legend Award from Wesley United Methodist Church and was recognized by her home church, Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with the Star Educator Award.
She is a Life Member of the Jarvis Christian College/ Southern Christian Institute National Alumni Association and the Houston Area JCC Alumni Association. In addition to her service as an AISD Trustee, Jones serves as a member of the North Harris County Association of Retired School Personnel, has served as president of the Gulf Coast Area Association of School Boards and is a member of the Hidden Valley Civic Club.
She is married to Bennie Roy Jones. They have one daughter, Marcie Jones Strahan.
