Lawyer Filed State Rep. Reynolds Barratry Complaint

FT. BEND- Harris County prosecutors say Marcela Halmagean filed the complaint against State Representative Ron Reynolds that led to his arrest. Halmagean is a family attorney in Houston. Investigators allege Reynolds used an individual to solicit Halmagean as a client when she was involved in an automobile accident. As made clear in Texas law, soliciting a client for legal services is considered barratry, a violation.

Representative Reynolds is a managing partner at Brown, Brown, and Reynolds, which is based in Bellaire. He specializes in several types of law, including personal injury, Social Security disability and family law. He is the past president of the Houston Lawyers Association and he’s an adjunct professor at Texas Southern University. Rep. Reynolds, 38, was arrested, posted $5,000 bond, and was released from jail.  If he is found guilty, the representative could be forced to pay up to $10,000 in fines. He can also lose his license to practice law.
