HEMPSTEAD– The Hempstead ISD School Board voted to reverse its decision of a week ago and reinstate head football coach Ricky Sargent. The school board voted to rescind its action from last week.
The school board’s only disciplinary action against Sargent will be when he was initially placed on administrative leave after he ordered two student-athletes be left last month at a restaurant at 11 p.m., more than an hour from home because they were misbehaving.
Four coaches who were with the kids also at the time had been suspended without pay for 30 days by the school board. That decision has also been rescinded and all of the coaches can return to work.
In 2011, Sargent led the Hempstead Bobcats to its first-ever appearance in a state championship game.
