HOUSTON – The Youth Leadership Training program is nearing the end of its first year of assembly. So far, there have been six leadership training sessions held for the 2011-2012 school year. Houston Municipal Judge, Oswald J. Scott, Jr., who is also a motivational speaker, author, and life coach, served as the guest speaker for the Youth Leadership Training session that was held on April 19, 2012. Judge Scott’s message to the six students in attendance covered the “Three Steps to Becoming a Great Leader.”
The three components of this topic included the following: 1) “Great Leaders Believe They Can” 2) “Great Leaders Serve Others Before They Serve Themselves” 3) “Great Leaders are Teachable.” Judge Scott spoke eloquently on this concept as it related to his own personal challenges and accomplishments throughout his lifetime, thus far.
Two additional leadership training modules are left on the agenda to conclude this year’s lessons which involve the students participating in the AHCBED Business Networking Luncheon on May 3rd and the final training session, held on May 10th, will involve “Team Building” concepts. Key components to students gaining a greater understanding of leadership as it relates to education, career aspirations, business, community, and self-worth have been at the center of teachings being presented by University of Houston Clear Lake graduate student, Kevin Malonson, whom is a candidate for the Master of Arts in Behavioral Sciences with a sub-plan in Public Service Leadership. The Executive Director of the AHCBED, Mrs. Livvy Ester, oversees this program and maintains the professional guidelines by which it is administered.
