Councilman Brian Rowland Receives Award from the YMCA of Greater Houston Gala

HOUSTON- 1st District Prairie View Councilman Brian Rowland was recognized by the YMCA of Greater Houston at their Minority Achievers Award Gala. He received the “Minority Achiever Award” for his efforts in the community. The YMCA also recognized other community members and presented scholarships for students as a part of their ceremony. The mission of the YMCA of Greater Houston, which is one of Houston’s leading non-profits committed to helping people and the community succeed, is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

“I am truly honored and appreciative of the recognition by the YMCA of Greater Houston. They have truly been a tremendous resource and partner for the area. I have worked over the last ten years as a community advocate to empower community residents, especially in communities of color, to effect positive change. I would like to commend all of the recipients of the awards as well. I believe that when people actively engage with each other, government, non-profits, and other community stakeholders it is only then that we are able to improve the quality of life for all of us” said Councilman Rowland.  Councilman Rowland is the Mayor Pro-Tem for the City of Prairie View and serves on the Planning and Zoning Committee; represents the city on several organizations that involved in infrastructure and economic development. He is also a candidate for County Commission Precinct 3 and Vice Chairman for the Prairie View Federal Credit Union.
