HOUSTON -Sheila Laverne Jewett Mills was born on August 27,1956 as the eighth child of nine siblings to Cannon and Georgia Mae Jewett. She accepted Christ at an early age, while attending Clinton Park United Methodist Church. Later, she became a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church, where she united in Holy Matrimony to Gerald Mills. In addition, they were committed to service at Christian Tabernacle Church and she served as an usher.
Sheila grew up in Clinton Park community, at a time when families and neighbors were bound by a joint effort to rear and guide each other’s children. She attended schools in the Houston Independent School District, graduating from Furr High School in 1976. She was a loving mother to her only son, Marcus DeAndre Jewett. Eager to spend quality time with her son and grandsons, she moved to Austin, Texas during her latter years. Blessing were shown through this passion fulfilled her destiny. Sheila was known to bring joy, laughter and “BIG” smiles to all. Her warm spirit and genuine kindness was demonstrated through her actions and willingness to give. She also loved to display her creativity through fashion and interior design. She was a devoted, hard worker who took pride in her duties and work ethics. This was demonstrated through her many years of service in the dry cleaning industry and custodial services in the Galena Park Independent School District.
Sheila entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. She is preceded in death by her father, Cannon James Jewett; mother, Georgia Mae Jewett Stevens; siblings, Charles Anthony Jewett, Carland Rodell Jewett and Kathryn Laverne Jewett. She leaves to cherish her memories a loving husband of fifteen years, Gerald Mills; son, Marcus DeAndre Jewett of Austin, Texas; three grandsons, Joseph, Jeremy and Jaden; siblings, Sharlet Kauffin (Herbery), Rosalind Matthews (Joe), Vanessa Guillory (Dewey), Georgia LaTrice Stevens (Louis) and Cannon James Jewett (Shirley), all of Houston, Texas; treasured nieces, nephews and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
