Carver Magnet High School and New Life Tabernacle Church to present “The Darker Face of the Earth” Stage Play

HOUSTONCarver Magnet High School-Theatre Department and New Life Tabernacle Church have collaborated to present the play, “The Darker Face of the Earth” Saturday, May 5th at 7 P.M. in the Carver auditorium. Carver Magnet High School is located 2100 South Victory St. Ticket prices are $15.

Carver Theatre students are widely known for their professional showmanship and competitive style in drama and musical productions. Their artistic ability to retell stories and recreate characters with precision, energy and passion has yielded them numerous accolades at UIL One-Act Play contests at the local and state level and garnered recognition for Tommy Tunes Awards in many areas.

“The Darker Face of the Earth” is a powerful Broadway stage play written by Pulitzer Prize winner Rita Dove and directed by Roshunda Jones, Theatre Director at Carver. Jones is widely recognized for her unmatched skill in directing such plays as Dream Girls, The Wiz and Little Shop of Horrors. Her very talented students perform regularly receiving awards for acting, singing and dancing. This work unveils shocking secrets of interracial love in a pre-Civil War South Carolina family.  Full of gospel music, suspense and complex historical events, this play is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Proceeds from this performance will support Life Conference 2012 hosted by New Life Tabernacle Church, 3021 De Soto St., June 8-10.  Tickets are available and on sale for $15 at either location.
