THE WOODLANDS, TX- African-American News&Issues presents Mr. Albert H. Myres, Sr., of A. Myres & Associates, LLC. He is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana who has become a Houstonian and has three sons and a lovely wife, Angela.
For over twenty years Albert Myres has had hands-on experience engaging in government and public affairs. He has directed the public affairs and advocacy efforts of several major corporations. During this time period he has interfaced with numerous elected officials, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), environmental groups and advised CEO’s on public policy, resolution management , and stakeholder engagement practices. As the former Senior Vice President of Government and Public Affairs for RRI Energy, Inc., Myres directed the federal, state, regional and local legislative and government affairs activities for the company. He was the company’s “voice” in Washington and was responsible for structuring and implementing public policy strategies to enhance and maintain competitive commercial wholesale markets. Myres also oversaw stakeholder engagement activities directed at creating and promoting dialog with key stakeholders.
During his tenure with Reliant Energy, Myres provided oversight of federal and state government affairs, communications, community affairs and the Reliant Energy Foundation. His primary responsibilities included leading the company’s efforts in implementing corporate strategies by developing and advocating policy positions to cultivate and maintain competitive commercial, industrial and residential markets across the United States. Before joining Reliant Energy, Myres served as Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff to the President and Country Chairman of Shell Oil Corporation. During his 11 years tenure, he served in several other senior level positions. Before joining the President’s office, Myres was senior advisor of the Washington D.C. government affairs office of Shell. His duties included representing the chemical, hydrogen, solar, and wind interests of the company in Washington. He also served as Vice President of the Shell Oil Company Foundation, one of the nation’s largest corporate foundations. Myres was responsible for implementing and facilitating Shell’s philosophy through planned strategic giving in the areas of education, public policy, charities and the arts. Prior to joining Shell, Myres served as director for the Texas office for United States Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Myres actively participates with many community service organizations. He was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to serve on the Texas Southern University advisory committee to provide recommendations to the governor’s office on improving fiscal management and strategic planning. Following the devastation of Hurricane Ike, Houston Mayor Bill White appointed Myres as chairman of the Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund. Modeled after the successful Katrina/Rita Fund, which Myres also led, the fund is dedicated to helping fill unmet human needs for families in Harris and Galveston counties and other affected areas. Myres also created and implemented the Katrina/Rita Education Initiative, a $5 million project to provide immediate intervention for displaced children who fell behind their peers in reading and math skills. Between both the Katrina/Rita Fund and the Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund, Myres in conjunction with the Mayor and board members were responsible for raising $23 million in private donations for those in need.
Additionally, Myres has served on the board of directors for Community Partners, Houston Ballet, Depelchin Children’s Center, the Corporate Advisory Board of the Alley Theater and the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation, appointed by then-Governor George W. Bush. Myres currently serves on the board of directors for the YMCA, Interfaith Ministries and the Texas Nature Conservancy, where he is vice chairman of the board. He is also a member of the Acres Homes Chamber for Business & Economic Development. With all of the accomplishments and skills that Myres has been blessed with he used his talents to launch A. Myres & Associates, LLC. A. Myres Associates (AMALLC) is a Government and public policy firm created to address the gap between policy advocacy and stakeholder relation’s practices. The organization specializes in: energy advocacy, federal, state, county and city government affairs, environmental stewardship, stakeholder engagement, disaster relief services and agriculture.
