Brother 4 Brother Organization at Lone Star College-Victory Center

HOUSTON-–The Brother for Brother (B4B) was established at Lone Star College – North Harris (LSC-NH) in March 2009 with 12 charter members and 3 advisors. Dr. Bennie Lambert, Vice President, Student Development, initially started the program Sheldon Moss, Steven Washington, Jon Wilson, and Hilton Lasalle.

Brother 4 Brother (B4B) is a male organization exclusively designed with the purpose of increasing the number of African-American and Latino men graduating from LSC-North Harris. Male student receive guidance and help through creating a positive peer community based on a spirit of caring. B4B members excel academically, socially, culturally, spiritually, and in service to their community. Nine founding members have graduated from LSC-NH and have transferred to several different four-year colleges to continue their education.

Brother for Brother (B4B) is a dynamic organization established specifically to assist a diverse male population with graduating from Lone Star College – North Harris.  Brother for Brother strives to develop its members so they can better identify resources for themselves and their community, apply lessons learned, and make responsible decisions to become effective leaders. There are core six program committees are designed to develop its members in the following area through actively participating in campus and community-service activities.  The committees are (a) Academic, (b) Spirituality, (c) Service learning, (d) Personal Development, (e) Financial Affairs, and (f) Public Relations.  B4B members serve as chairs and co-chairs of the committees and are responsible for creating activities to develop B4B members and the campus student-body in their committee area. 

Example activities are weekly study hall, off-campus mentoring, volunteering projects, speaker series, etc.  B4B is involved in various community service projects such as Salvation Army, Northwest Assistance Ministries, YMCA, as well as volunteering as needed for campus events. Program administrators facilitate members’ development through mentoring, assisting members with identifying resources, and fostering unwavering support.

    The organization name is significant….. Brother For Brother rather than Brother 4 Brother… the “For” indicates what we are about where as the number “4″ does not.
