African-American Lawmakers vow change after Blomberg verdict

HOUSTON–A group of African-American elected leaders gathered Friday to speak out against how the Chad Holley beating case was tried and handled. Former HPD officer Andrew Blomberg was found not guilty of offical oppression. He was one of four ex-HPD officers who were present during the videotaped beating of teen burglar Chad Holley.

Congressman Al Green met with the Department of Justice asking the agency to review how the Holley case was handled in regards to the all-White jury. When asked about the all-White jury, District Attorney Pat Lykos said the only two Black potential jurors were struck for a cause and there was nothing the office could do about it.

State Rep. Sylvester Turner also announced he and other lawmakers are now working on drafts for the next legislative session that would improve judiciary system and jury selection process. Three officers still have to be tried in this case.
