A Davis High School-Falcon Player

cover11When the doors of Aldine Independent School District’s Benjamin O Davis High School opened for the 2012-13 school year, Heaven Edmonson was among hundreds of students who will be the first graduating class of Davis High in 2015. As a former student of Aldine Independent School District’s Lewis Middle School, Heaven found her niche there in Choir and LOTC (leadership officer, training corps). Then in the year 2011- at Chester W. Nimitz 9th grade school she was a dedicated choir student where she went on to perform in UIL where their choir earned the highly rated sweepstakes award under the direction of Lori Shownes. She was also in the Naval JROTC. Yet, most of her time was spent with the “Legacy” a brotherhood / sisterhood program where she pledged and crossed over with Kappa Nu Psi, a high school sorority at Nimitz, she performed in all poetry slam events, as well as traveled to Texas A&M University, where she was widely recognized for her performance in Nimitz’s Black History play. In her first year at Benjamin O. Davis High, Heaven was a student of choir. She was also a member of the Davis Falcons Theater Department where she won awards for: best actress at the San Jacinto College pre-UIL theater workshop, and Honorable Mention for ALL STAR CAST in her UIL performance as Mrs. Dean, in the Robert Shaw play “Bury the Dead”. Currently, Heaven is the Theater/Drama Club-Treasurer, a member of the JROTC, and a member of the Foreign Language Club as a French student. She is the recipient of a 2014; YOU’RE a S.T.A.R. certificate for Performance, Responsibility, Integrity, Determination, And Excellence in her Chemistry class. Heaven is also the 2014 winner of the Davis High School Talent Show where she delivered an electric performance that garnered praise from her peers for her offering of the poem “Imagine” by Black Ice. She placed 2nd in last year’s Talent Show by performing “Anger” by Amir Suleiman. At the 2014 ROTC “Dining Out” ceremony she read the M.I.A.-P.O.W. speech that deeply touched a former military Chaplain who attended. She recited the poem “Imagine” by Black Ice, for the Davis High School’s Special Education Department’s – Special Education Teacher Appreciation Day. She anxiously awaits for the 2014/2015 school year to begin.   Heaven loves Public Speaking!
